GAMES WINS GOALS P/G
The Los Blancos scored a whopping 119 goals in their 2021-22 season bringing back home the La Liga title. Real Madrid completed the season in style by defeating Liverpool in the Champions League final, securing their 14th title. Carlo Ancelotti became the first manager in history to win all the 5 major European league titles. He is also the most successful coach in the Champions League with 4 titles. Real Madrid ended the season with 3 trophies.
HOW DID REAL MADRID SCORE?
Real Madrid have shown insane determination and discipline in their game throughout the whole season. They scored a total of 119 goals in their 56 appearances in total while conceding 45 goals. Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema were the duo Madrid looked forward to in the upper half of the field. Benzema scored 44 goals in all competitions with 14 assists against his name. He is probably the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or this season. Vinicius has 22 goals and 16 assists in his name. Together the two have combined outrageously, creating havoc in the oppositions’ defence.

Throughout the season, Madrid have loved to put the ball forward down the left flank for Vinicius to run with it. Vinicius was always there at the top of the half down the left flank. Whenever Madrid retrieved the ball in their half, they could just launch a counter via Vinicius - and that seemed to have worked. With the likes of Modric and Kroos, to play the ball across the field to Vinicius has been just a piece of cake for the men in white. And as always, Benzema was there to finish things off in the box. What a season he had! He always arrived at the box whenever his team needed it. Benzema generally dropped down to help in the build up and linked up with his fellow teammates. Ancelotti has used his right wing quite intelligently, I’d say, with Asensio, Valverde and the super sub Rodrygo. Valverde was his right winger in the Champions League.
It is clearly seen how Modric and Kroos direct the play from the midfield. Real Madrid have been very lethal with their counter attacks this season. They have shown extreme discipline in their defence and holding positions. While Benzema deceives the defender, Vinicius is free on the left flank.
La Liga
Real Madrid won 24 games out of 38 with drawing 8 and losing 4 matches in the 2021-22 La Liga season. They have scored the maximum number of goals (80) in the Spanish League this season with Karim Benzema having probably the best season of his career at 34. Benzema has 27 goals and 12 assists in his name in La Liga 2021-22. Benzema and Vinicius Junior have been Real Madrid’s go-to men for the entire season. They have been involved with more than 68% of the club's goals in this season. Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s blind faith in Luka Modric and Toni Kroos has yet again proved that age is just a number. With more than 90% passing accuracy throughout the whole season consistently, Modric and Kroos have been a key role in Madrid’s La Liga success.
Defensively, Real Madrid are second in terms of conceding goals, just 1 behind Sevilla, who finished 3rd in the league. Real Madrid conceded 30 goals all over the La Liga season. They have shown great quality in defence with David Alaba alongside Eder Militao stepping up to fill the shoes of Sergio Ramos and Varane. Ancelotti’s side finished the season with 76 yellow cards and 0 red cards. It was the first time since 1983-84, the Los Blancos finished a La Liga season without a single red card.
Real Madrid won 9 of their 13 appearances in the Champions League this season. Madrid clinched yet another European trophy as Vinicius scored the winning goal in Paris against Liverpool. Madrid kept their 2.1 goals per game ratio consistently as they scored 29 goals.Ancelotti used his bench the most effective way as Madrid paved its way towards the trophy. They turned around game after game, came up from situations from where everybody had lost hope.
Modric’s outstanding outstepped pass stabbed the Chelsea team in their hearts. Rodrygo was there to put the ball into the net. Madrid went on defeating Chlesea in the extra time, thanks to Benzema’s 96th minute header. Roddrygo stole the show yet again in the semi final 2nd leg match against Manchester City. Came on as a substitute in the 68th minute, scored 2 goals in stoppage time to take the match to extra time. Benzema’s extra time penalty won the Madrid hearts again. Real Madrid scored 22 goals from inside the penalty box, 7 goals from outside the 18 yard box. It is clearly seen that they have been very lethal in the penalty area. They have executed every chance inside the box efficiently.
